• Factors contributing to increased depression risk in veterans include separation from loved ones and support systems, combat stressors, and witnessing harm to oneself and others.
• Research shows that 9% of all appointments at outpatient military clinics are for depression. However, fewer than half of returning veterans in need of mental health treatment receive it.
